The pigment of ballpoint pen ink is a dye. There are three main ink colors: blue, red and black, of which blue ink is the most used. In the past, the pigment components in blue ink were salt-based blue and salt-based green lotus, and the solvent was oxidized castor oil and castor oleic acid. Because salt-based dyes are not light-resistant (lightfastness is only grade 1-2), heat-resistant, acid-alkali resistant, so the durability is poor and has been eliminated.


The "424" blue ballpoint pen and "322" black ballpoint pen sold on the market have better durability for handwriting. Reports of toxic scented ballpoint pens are common, and the volatile organic compounds contained in inferior scented stationery are toxic and have certain damage to the human body; However, no incidents of poisoning due to normal use of oily ballpoint pens without volatile organic compounds have been reported.


The main structure of the ballpoint pen is the upper and lower tooth column, the upper tooth column is pressed by hand, and the lower tooth column can be rotated inside. The meshing of the upper and lower tooth columns is incomplete meshing, only the tip of the tooth bites a part, and the guide ribs behind the two teeth of the bite are designed to slide in the same guide groove, when the lower tooth column slides out of the guide groove after the upper tooth column pushes the slide, the version due to the action of the spring, the teeth of the lower tooth column will slide along the bevel of the teeth of the upper tooth column that mesh, so that under the action of the bevel, the lower tooth column will turn an angle, slide to the other side, and be pressed, so that the repetition can realize the function of the ballpoint pen.
